چکیده

We extend to the BV case a measure theoretic lemma previously proved by DiBenedetto, Gianazza and Vespri ([1]) in W 1,1 loc . It states that if the set where u is positive occupies a sizable portion of a open set E then the set where u is positive clusters about at least one point of E. In this note we follow the proof given in the Appendix of [3] so we are able to use only a 1−dimensional Poincaré inequality.

p-Lambda-bounded variation

A characteriation of continuity of the $p$-$Lambda$-variation function is given and the Helly's selection principle for $Lambda BV^{(p)}$ functions is established. A characterization of the inclusion of Waterman-Shiba classes into classes of functions with given integral modulus of continuity is given. A useful estimate on modulus of variation of functions of class $Lambda BV^{(p)}$ is found.

A Generalization of Lusin's Theorem

In this note we characterize cr-finite Riesz measures that allow one to approximate measurable functions by continuous functions in the sense of Lusin's theorem. We call such measures Lusin measures and show that not all cr-finite measures are Lusin measures. It is shown that if a topological space X is either normal or countably paracompact, then every measure on A' is a Lusin measure. A count...

The Sharp Quantitative Sobolev Inequality for Functions of Bounded Variation

The classical Sobolev embedding theorem of the space of functions of bounded variation BV (Rn) into Ln (Rn) is proved in a sharp quantitative form.

Charaterization of generalised gradient young measures generated by sequences in W 1 , 1 and BV

Generalized Young measures as introduced by DiPerna and Majda [Comm. Math. Phys. 108 (1987), 667–689] provide a quantitative tool for studying oscillation and concentration effects in sequences of functions. In this work, after developing a functional-analytic framework for such measures including a compactness theorem and results on the generation of such Young measures by L-bounded sequences ...
